JamVember in July FAQs

Q1. What is JamVember in July?
A. JamVember in July is a weekend-long bluegrass "non-festival" focused on jamming, jamming, and more jamming... with one big difference from usual festivals: no stage show to distract from the picking!

Q2. When and where is JamVember in July being held?
A. JamVember in July will be held on the 19th, 20th & 21st of July at Camp Kee-wanee in Greenfield, MA, just 10 minutes from the intersection of Rt. 2 & I-91. This is the same location as the Harry Smith Frolic (an Old-time campout weekend), and the camp's address is 1 Health Camp Rd, Greenfield, MA 01301 (see map below).

Q3. What amenities does Camp Kee-wanee have?
A. Located on the Green River, Camp Kee-wanee is an active summer day camp featuring:

-- Unfurnished cabins to play music in (no beds)
-- Bathrooms and showers
-- Picnic pavilion & basketball court
-- Camping and parking on flat ground
-- Frolicking in the Green River
-- Swimming Pool open select hours

Q4. What are the biggest differences between Camp Kee-wanee and other summer festival locations?
A. Because Camp Kee-wanee is not a campground, here are some of the amenities it doesn't have:

-- There are no electrical hook-ups, no water lines, and no dump station for RVs (but RVs are welcome)
-- There is nothing for sale at Camp Kee-wanee (no ice, no food, no batteries, etc.) so please bring what you need
-- Some festival sites have buildings with overhangs that you can camp under, but that is not the case at Camp Kee-wanee, so please bring your own shelter and camp in the woods if you want lots of shade
-- Some festival grounds have numbered campsites and paved roads covering the grounds, but at Camp Kee-wanee there are no numbered campsites and only a few roads

Q5. Will food be for sale at JamVember in July?
A. No, unfortunately, due to town ordinances, we are not allowed to bring in food trucks or any other kind of food vendors. Please plan to bring all of your own food with you, or visit nearby restaurants in Greenfield and beyond.

Q6. When does JamVember in July start and end?
A. Camp Kee-wanee is an active summer day camp, and therefore, we MUST respect their hours of operation:

-- DO NOT arrive before 6 pm on Friday, July 19th

-- everyone MUST leave by 1 pm on Sunday, July 21st

Q7. Will there be a quiet camping area at JamVember in July?
A. Yes, there will at least one area designated for quiet camping.

Q8. What does "Suggested Donation" mean?
A. Because of town ordinances, we are not allowed to sell tickets to JamVember in July. Instead, we are asking everyone who joins us to contribute to the event by giving the suggested donation. Your donation will help cover the cost of renting the camp and much more.

Q9. Will the workshops & jams cost money?
A. No, all of the workshops and teacher-led jams are free with a valid wristband.

Q10. Where will the workshops & jams be held?
A. All the workshops and teacher-led jams will be held in the cabins and/or under the pavilion.

Q11. Will there be physical passes issued?
A. No physical passes will be issued, although registered attendees will receive a wristband when they check-in. For those who register online beforehand, we will have a list of attendees when you arrive. Please bring your ID with you when you come to check-in.

Q12. Do I have to register in advance?
A. No, you can simply show up at any time during the weekend and register. You can register at the event with cash or credit card (no checks please).

Q13. Will styles other than bluegrass be represented at JamVember in July?
A. Yes, the main styles other than bluegrass that will be represented at JamVember in July are Old-Time and Swing. We will have a variety of Old-Time and Swing workshops and jam sessions. But it's also likely that other related styles of music will also be represented at JamVember in July… anybody interested in Swedish nyckelharpa? It just depends on who shows up!

Q14. If I register for a Single-Day Pass can I jam all night?
A. Yes, single-day passes are valid until 7 am the next morning as follows:

Friday-Only Pass: Friday at 6 pm until Saturday at 7 am

Saturday-Only Pass: Saturday at 10 am until Sunday at 7 am

Q15. Are scholarships available for youth and those who can't afford the Suggested Donation?
A. Yes, thanks to the incredible generosity of our Indiegogo campaign contributors, we are able to offer scholarships to people under the age of 25. If you or your child would like to receive a youth scholarship, please just email us at thebluegrassuniversity@gmail.com

We also have sliding-scale need-based scholarships available for anybody who feels that they cannot afford the cost of attending JamVember in July. We really want to make JamVember in July accessible for everybody, so if JamVember in July is out of your price range, please email us at thebluegrassuniversity@gmail.com

Q16. Is there a discounted ticket price for listeners (those who don't jam)?
A. JamVember in July is for jammers, learners, and listeners alike, and just like other weekend-long bluegrass events, we do not have discounted tickets for those who don't jam. If the ticket price is prohibitively expensive, please check out our sliding-scale need-based scholarships, and email us at thebluegrassuniversity@gmail.com if you are interested.

Q17. Are pets allowed at JamVember in July?
A. Unfortunately, Camp Kee-wanee does not allow any guest to bring their pets. There are several boarding kennels in the area, but be sure to find out what health documentation they require.

Q18. Are fires permitted?
A. No open fires are permitted, but you are welcome to bring a camp stove or grill. Please note that all cookfires must be off the ground. Small propane grills are permitted, but we recommend you bring a fire extinguisher if you plan to have a propane grill.
